Social Security Number

Why do I need to provide my Social Security Number (SSN) as part of my credit card application?

We require your Social Security number for two reasons:

  1. Under the USA Patriot Act, all financial institutions are required to verify the identity of every person who attempts to open an account or become a signatory on an account. An "account" can include a credit card, checking account, or another extension of credit.
  2. We use your SSN to access information about your credit history, which helps us determine if we can approve your application.
