Why do I need to provide my Social Security Number (SSN) as part of my credit card application?
We require your Social Security number for two reasons:
- Under the USA Patriot Act, all financial institutions are required to verify the identity of every person who attempts to open an account or become a signatory on an account. An "account" can include a credit card, checking account, or another extension of credit.
- We use your SSN to access information about your credit history, which helps us determine if we can approve your application.
